Building a Balanced Link Profile with Edu Links

Originally posted Oct 29, 2009…

The truth is that every website of significance needs edu links once it’s traffic gets to a certain level.  Even if your site is currently ranking number one for your desired keyword(s).  You still need them because your competitors will never stop gunning for your coveted top position.  If they’re smart, they’ll be developing a balanced link profile in their attempt to topple you.  No matter your thoughts on the relative power of edu backlinks in relation to other links, you will find very few SEO analysts who will say it is a good idea to NOT have a balanced link profile. What do we mean by “link profile”?  This means “spreading” your backlinks out appropriately.  Not just achieving backlinks among similar niches and directories and articles and forums, but also by acquiring links from different domain extensions

Problems with placing your edu backlinks on students’ personal websites

This is a very common practice in the edu backlink building industry and we think you should know the truth.   First, let us say that we will never build backlinks or copy on a student’s personal website for our clients.  We know that doing so would present at least three problems for our clients.  First, the “tilde” (aka, “~”).  Not all the time, but USUALLY when you see the tilde in a web address, that is telling the search engines “hey, don’t index the pages behind the ~”.  And if the pages with your links are not getting cached, they means they are not counting in your rankings.  Exceptions to the “tilde rule” are student associations, clubs, teams or organizations which also may be located behind a tilde at times.  Almost always sites for these student bodies ARE indexed.

Three Questions You Should Ask Your Edu Backlink Provider

Originally posted Sept 14, 2009…

For each question, we’ll give our answer.  Before you buy backlinks from edu pages from anywhere, it is important for you to know the answer to these questions.

1) Are your text links Do-Follow or No-Follow?

Our Answer:  All of our edu backlinks that we build for our clients are DO-FOLLOW.  Our overall experience in linkbuilding (not just edu and gov) has shown us that while there is SOME value in building SOME no-follow backlinks (namely so that your link building looks more natural to the search engines), your precious and valuable edu or gov links is NOT the place to be doing that.

2) Where are your .edu links hosted and in what country are your .gov links located?

Our Answer:  All of our .edu domains are located in the U.S.  and all of our .gov domains are located here in the U.S. as well.  While there may be some value in “.gov.uk” and similar foreign university domains, it has been well established in the edu link building community that the most valuable and trusted domains are .edu and .gov right here in the U.S.  Since we only deal in the highest quality backlinks, this is all we choose to provide to our clients.

3) What is the PageRank of the Top Level Domain your links are placed on and what are the PageRanks of the actual pages your links are placed on?

Our Answer:  All of our edu backlinks have very high PageRank TLD (5 is a minimum and it is rare that one of educational institutions have a PR that low).  Not only that, almost all of our edu text links have verified, established PageRank on the pages where the links are established themselves!  Regardless, our clients are getting their full money’s worth because of the power of the edu domains we are placing the links and copy on.  Referencing our new high-quality .edu PageRank Program, our clients will see a minimum of PageRank 1 on these sites with VERY FEW other outgoing links on these pages.

Three problems with placing your edu links on students’ personal websites?

Which leads us to the second potential problem: If a student’s personal site actually IS indexed by a search engine, there is very strong SEO evidence to believe that these pages are de-emphasized or devalued by the engine’s algorithm.  The reason for this may be very plain, but we’ll spell it out here:  these are college students and their websites can be similar to their MySpace page.  It is the same reason you never see myspace results come up when you do a web search.

Lastly, the third problem is “student review” websites.  Sometimes there are students that will provide a “review service”.  This is usually where the student has an arrangement with the edu link builders whereby they will post the client’s (your) content and links on their page for a fee.  But, the problem with this arrangement is the old familiar “SEO bad neighborhood”.  That is, the students will write articles and link to sites that are less than desirable – sites that you do not want to be affiliated with.

Here is just one example (we won’t link to it, but you can copy and paste)…

http://people.morrisville.edu/~stone86/

Yes, this site is indexed by the search engines, but, as you can see, there are gambling sections to the site, as well as articles about and links to steroid sites.  Such sites are the norm in student “review service” sites.  There are obvious reasons that this site will be devalued by the search engines and there is potential that, given enough of these kinds of links, they could actually HURT your site instead of helping it

At eduLinksNow, we are aggressively focused at providing you the opportunity to buy backlink from the best edu pages out there. That means that if it is regarding in-context of SEO copy links, we’re talking about pages of copy on educational domains dedicated just to your client.  If it is regarding PageRank edu links, we’re providing you with PR links on “almost-virgin” pages that have very, very few other outbound links.

To use keyword-specific anchor text backlinks or not?

We will soon be posting a video that explains it all in more detail but, for now, suffice it to say that the evidence we have been presented with is leading us to seriously re-think our position of ONLY using these specific anchor text links for our edu link clients.  Furthermore it actually appears that, contrary to what many believe to be true, the higher pagerank pages are having much less influence lately than they were in previous years.  Again, this is backed up by some pretty solid data that we’ll be presenting soon.  So, what are the top factors to focus on when building edu links right?  It is 1) your links in context of relevant copy and 2) having an extremely wide variety of anchor texts for your back links.  Stay tuned for that video.

A few edu backlinks or thousands of “regular” backlinks?

It really is not always a game of “whoever has the most text links, wins”.  Often it is a game of “the one with the RIGHT links wins”!

I’m sure some of us have looked at search results for a certain targeted keyword and then gone on to check the backlinks of the top 10 sites and then scratched our heads and said “Hmmm, why is THAT site in the top 10? It only has <enter low number> of links?!?” Upon closer inspection one usually finds that the sites with fewer backlinks that rank on the first page of search results have links that are coming from “trusted” sources (such as edu backlinks and gov links). Throw in relevancy on these referring pages and you have an explosive mix that can catapult even the newest site sometimes to the top of the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages).

So…there are really two different ways to play the SEO game of moving up higher in the search engine rankings: 1) Go for high volume of backlinks or 2) go for fewer high-quality, “trusted” links. Few choose to go the “high quality” way, even though it is the best in the long run. Read on to learn why. Still thinking about spending your time and/or money to go the volume route? Consider this: You are not alone. This is also what your competitors are doing. And it is a dog race with all of you just trying to get 20 more links this week than than the next guy. It is a never-ending battle. Not only that, but when trying to get these massive numbers of links, you are running the gauntlet trying to avoid being penalized by Google and identified as a site that is playing too much in the SEO world.

Realize then that it is a very strong reality that often it is the one with the “right” 30 links that can beat out competitors with even thousands of links. Think about that for a moment! What is it that Google and the other search engines are saying here? They are saying “QUALITY”!!

Now, getting trusted backlinks is an obviously better choice. And it is no secret that the most trusted links out there are edu backlinks and gov back links. Receiving these links is an extremely difficult task most times and that is why most SEOs and site webmasters are readily comfortable to buy text links of the highest quality like these.  Their value is unmatched in the search engine optimization world.  It is the best way to get on top in the “trusted backlinks” game and much better for you in the long run as well.

Good luck, love what you do and let us know if you have any questions!

When looking to buy text links, are edu links and gov links more valuable?

As search engines crawl through a website they pick up a lot of information about the site including inbound links. The value of the inbound links and their relevancy together determine the importance of your website. Every link to your website is considered as a vote and the value of votes depend on the value of the sites that vote. This is why edu linksgov links, and high PR links are more valuable.

Although most SEO experts are aware of this there are still a few that argue against this fact. Since search engine’s algorithms are top secret most search engine optimization techniques are learned or discovered only with experience. A simple test to check the value of edu links and gov links could enlighten one to the value of these authoritative links to your website. Just include a few edu links and gov links to one of your websites and add standard links to a second one. Within a short span, you will realize that your former website ranks higher than your latter!

Why edu links and gov links are viewed as valuable ones by search engines is a million dollar question! SEO experts agree that they carry more weight than links from other websites. When it comes to offpage optimization, every one of the links has its own value! SEO gurus encourage website owners and webmasters to obtain as many backlinks as possible for a website to stand out from the crowd. But for links from bad neighborhoods and penalized websites, all links have a value and some links are considered more valuable than others by search engines. For instance, search engines like Google and Yahoo consider backlinks from .edu and .gov as more authoritative than the conventional .com, .net or .org websites.

There are various factors that make edu and gov links highly valuable in the sight of search engines. The first and foremost reason is that only registered educational institutions and government bodies can obtain .edu and .gov domains. Secondly, .edu and .gov websites are far less common when compared with other traditional domains, which makes them more valuable. Finally it’s not so easy to obtain backlinks from high PR pages or from .edu or .gov websites.

A simple internet search will show you how to go about obtaining backlinks in the .edu domain pages. For example, it is possible to buy backlinks and buy text links through blog comments or guest posts. However, you should be aware that most blog pages of students are seldom indexed and are often times removed from the index even when they are initially indexed.  Also, most of the links you obtain from blog comments would be preset to the ‘no follow’ attribute resulting  in no link juice!

The adage ‘where there’s a will there’s a way’ is best fit for those who desperately want to make their sites more authoritative and valuable with edu links and gov links. The smartest way is to buy edu backlinks for a price.  Again, the a simple internet search is your best friend here.

Buy Edu Links With Confidence

It can help immeasurably to have links that remain in context. It also helps to have pages that consist of a minimum of 350 original words – not simply a few sentences like some blog posts which are sold. This will net you higher quality results. We are also able to prevent Yahoo from indexing your website. This step can be taken to prevent your nosy competition from observing your own promotional methods. If you’re someone who is unaware, people usually utilize Yahoo to see backlinks from a website, as they have a tendency to reveal a majority of incoming links to a website. Google reveals much less information regarding this.

While the edu links that we provide can’t help your search position in Yahoo, they’ll be invisible to anyone hoping to spy on you. Bear this in mind : Google dominates the search engine world, while Yahoo falls into second place. The quantity of links on a given page will be limited by us. An indexing spider will know if your link-filled page is spam. Google uses a code to figure out if your web page is genuine by counting the number of words versus the number of links. It will also attempt to read the words surrounding your links to verify your page. We’ve witnessed some genuinely ugly websites, so if you’ve bought into these previously, you should remove them from your web presence immediately.

The algorithms that search engines use to index pages are smarter every day, and your spam-filled page might set off alarms. A majority of the people we serve are aware of this, so they only want one or two links on any page. We can also guarantee that we’ll prevent our less experienced clients drown their web pages in dozens of links which will attract negative attention. You’ll be very safe with us. We set a cap on the quantity of pages we’ll sell to someone.

While huge sales are certainly profitable for me, if won’t benefit you if I post dozens of pages at once that link to one URL. We will discuss the wisest quantity of pages with our clients. We all need to remain intelligently beneath detection. We will not share these web pages previous to selling them. We also won’t sell under three pages at once. This technique allows us to be safe from spying customers who might be using us for information, or those who don’t know much about search engine optimization and want to know the ins and outs.

Once again, being in good company is beneficial to everyone. When you buy backlinks from us, we only give you the best prices and the utmost quality. You’ll immediately see the value, and that we know exactly what we’re doing.

What others say about the power of EDU links

Looking to add edu backlinks to your backlink profile?  When you buy backlink to your site, it is wise to use the main keyword of your website as anchor text. The incremental weight of an inbound link is often times compared with the Richter scale. For example, a link from PR8 would carry at least ten times the value of a link from a PR 7 page. It would be still better if you buy edu links or gov links. Just have a glimpse of what others say about the power of edu links.

Everybody wants links from .edu websites. They want those links because .edu websites have lots of high quality links and that gives them trust with the search engines. Another great thing about .edu websites is that they are almost always very picky about who they link to – giving those links only to the best and most reliable content. If .edu websites had pages where anybody can add a link for free or for a fee then they would lose a lot of trust with the search engines because those pages would be linking to a lot of unworthy sites.

I hope you are aware that getting .edu and .gov incoming links to your blog can be the best thing that you can do in the SEO front, to upgrade your blog/site to the next level. Having said that, .edu and .gov links are hard to get as they are in most cases authority websites focused on information or governmental policies and may not be likely to sell you links or donate one.

Steve Prylon says,

Links from sites with a .gov or .edu suffix are considered trusted and authority sites and are considered very valuable. Also, links that come from high ranked PageRank sites come with high value.

This is what user “Mit” says about edu backlinks:

No, it’s not like other links who can easily link exchange with you OR will give you link for free.  edu domains are basically of educational website and most of govt. domain. That’s why it is crucial to have links on that kind of websites…  http://www.v7n.com/forums/marketing-forum/58671-how-get-edu-sites.html

Mark’s view on gov links:

…but yeah .edu and .gov links help a site in improving their search results and their rankings too which ultimately affects a decent flow of visitors to their site.
